Allotments and Agrarian Movements

Speaker: Roger Tanner

Not a trained historian but after 50 years of involvement in Nottingham in politics and trade unionism now able to dig into our radical past. Usually leading guided walks rather than writing, on the Pentrich Revolution, Luddites or Chartists in the town.

Venue: The Nottingham Mechanics, 3 North Sherwood Street, Nottingham NG1 4EZ

Date: Saturday 30th June, 2-4pm. Doors open at 1.30pm.

Northern Herald Books will be present at the meeting with a bookstall of related literature.

Tea and coffee will be available.

Frame-breaking and Luddism in Nottinghamshire

Speakers: Julian Atkinson and Roger Tanner

Julian Atkinson served as Regional Secretary of his union, now known as the University and College Union (UCU). He trained as a scientist but developed an enduring fascination for the history of the labour movement.

Roger Tanner is not a trained historian but after 50 years of involvement in Nottingham in politics and trade unionism now able to dig into our radical past. Usually leading guided walks rather than writing, on the Pentrich Revolution, Luddites or Chartists in the town.

Venue: The Nottingham Mechanics, 3 North Sherwood Street, Nottingham NG1 4EZ

Date: Saturday 10th November, 2-4pm. Doors open at 1.00pm.

THIS MEETING WILL BE PRECEEDED BY THE AGM at 1.15pm

Chartism in Mansfield; Richard Carlile and his local supporters; Peterloo and links with our locality; the Derby Silk Mill.
